Car License - exchange course
This course is for people with a driving licence from their home country. Not all licences can be exchanged. City officials usually only accept international driving licences that meet the standards set out in the 21 May 1977 Vienna or 19 September Geneva conventions. Once you have that, you can apply to exchange your licence for a Czech one. This includes the theory and driving tests.
manual transmission
This is our standard car driving course for obtaining a Class B driving license. It includes both theoretical lessons and practical driving sessions. The practical training is conducted in a 2019 Toyota Yaris, equipped with a petrol engine and manual transmission.
automatic transmission
Compared to a manual transmission course, the main difference is that you’ll be driving a car with an automatic transmission. Consequently, your license will carry a restriction, limiting you to automatic vehicles only (code 78), meaning you won’t be able to drive manuals. However, this restriction can be easily lifted by passing a driving test in a manual car. We offer this service as well, of course.
signing in
To enrol in the car exchange course group B you need to fulfill the following:
- min. 17 years of age (it is possible to start the course before the required age, but the course must be completed on the day of the 17th birthday at the earliest )
- have a completed Žádost o přijetí k výuce a výcviku or on-line application
- have a certified Medical Certificate from a general practitioner (max. 3 months old) Posudek o zdravotní způsobilosti
The course
theoretical part
- General rules of operation
- Road Signs and Intersections
- Lesson with interpreter to practise final exam test questions
Every student of our driving school also gets printed materials in English and recommended sites and apps.
practical part
3x 90 min of practical drive
At this stage, we’ll be looking at your driving skills, knowledge of the rules of the road and ways we can help you improve. After three lessons, we’ll be in a better position to decide whether you’re ready for the exam or not. If not, we’d highly recommend paying for extra lessons to help you reach the level required for the exam.
final exam
The test for group B is made up of two parts. You get three shots at each part of the exam. In practice, this means that if you don’t pass the theory part, you’ve got two more options. If you still fail, you’ll have to go back to the driving school and repeat the whole theoretical part of the course (the lectures) and then you’ll have another three attempts. Once you’ve done that, you move on to the practical part of the test (driving). If you don’t pass after three attempts, you have to go back to school and repeat all the driving classes. You have a year to complete the test, from the first test to the last possible one. If you don’t pass in that time, you have to start a new course and go through the driving school again.
1. Theory test
The meeting is happening at the Ostrava City Hall, Sokolská střida. 28, Ostrava (right next to the Moravel shop). Before you take the test, you need to pay the admin fee of 700 CZK and bring your ID with you. If you already have a European driving licence of a different group, you should also bring it. In the test, you need to get at least 43 out of 50 to pass and go on to the test drive.
2. Driving test
The test starts in Gregorova Street, right next to the Municipality of Ostrava – Department of Traffic and Administrative Activities. Before you start driving, you’ll need to do a quick check of the vehicle. Then, following the instructions from the test commissioner, you’ll need to show you can drive smoothly and economically, sticking to all the traffic rules. The test lasts at least 30 minutes and takes place in the city centre and the surrounding area (Přívoz, Fifejdy, Mariánské Hory, Slezská Ostrava or Vítkovice).
Finishing the proccess
Once you’ve passed the exam, you’re all set. You’ll need to apply for a driving licence. You can apply for a driving licence at any office with extended jurisdiction, e.g. Ostrava, Hlučín, Bohumín, Havířov, Frýdek-Místek, where you can also pick up the driving licence. The office charges CZK 200 for this service. If you already have another authorisation, you can get a driving licence within 5 working days for CZK 700.
